URANA Services Ltd. is a fully registered company based in Kampala, Uganda, specializing in radiation protection, nuclear safety, and nuclear security consultancy. The company was established as a Technical Support Organization (TSO) to address the growing demand for expertise in the nuclear industry in Uganda by delivering professional and innovative consulting and advisory services.​

URANA Services Ltd. emerged from the recognition of the gaps in radiation and nuclear safety expertise in Uganda. For over a decade, while working in the nuclear regulatory sector, we witnessed the challenges facilities face in comprehending the risks of ionizing radiation, adhering to safety standards, navigating regulatory requirements, and finding reliable service providers in radiation protection. These challenges inspired a resolute commitment to establish a trusted partner to bridge these gaps.
Our unique value lies in the combination of our technical expertise and deep regulatory knowledge. By leveraging our strong ties to Uganda’s Atomic Energy Council, we ensure that our services align seamlessly with national and international safety regulations to provide practical and affordable solutions that are client-focused.​​

Our Brand
The name "URANA" reflects our identity as the "Uganda Radiation and Nuclear Advisory," while drawing inspiration from the planet Uranus. Uranus, with its moons, represents innovation and potential—qualities we strive to embody in our work. Our logo, designed as a nucleus surrounded by electrons, mirrors this celestial balance and the atomic foundation of our services. Additionally, "URANA" resonates with "Uranium," a vital mineral in the nuclear industry, symbolizing our deep connection to this field.

The logo’s royal blue conveys trust and reliability, red represents energy and determination, and gold signifies excellence and value. At URANA, we envision a future where our name is synonymous with expertise, professionalism, and integrity, ensuring that everyone who deals with us does so with confidence and trust.
Our Director
Joshua Birungi, our Managing Director, is a seasoned expert in radiation protection, nuclear safety, and nuclear security, with over 12 years of experience in the nuclear industry. His career in the industry began at the Atomic Energy Council, Uganda’s national nuclear regulatory authority, where he worked for nearly a decade. During this time, he served in different departments, including in Inspections, Enforcements, and Licensing. He also held leadership roles in Nuclear Security, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Nuclear Power Regulation, and Non-Ionizing Radiation. He was instrumental in the development of most of Uganda’s current nuclear safety guides, regulations, and standards that are in use today.
He holds a Master of Science in Nuclear and Quantum Engineering with a specialization in International Nuclear and Radiation Safety from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a glob.

He is also an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)-recognized subject matter expert and has been requested to share his expertise in over 10 countries across Africa and Europe, conducting specialized training programs.
Joshua’s broad technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and deep-rooted involvement in the national and international nuclear industry, combined with his passion, make him a trusted authority in the nuclear sector. He brings this wealth of knowledge and leadership to URANA to continue his contributions to Uganda's nuclear industry.
